Carola

£60.00

UPPERCASE: A to Z

LICENSE: Standard

FILE TYPE:  .jpg

SIZE: 4000px (H) at 300DPI

DOWNLOAD SIZE: 64MB

PROVENANCE: In 1888, the Leipzig typefoundry of J G Schelter & Giesecke introduced ‘Kunstler-Grotesk’ – perhaps one of the earliest forms of the burgeoning Jugendstijl. Its success inspired several new manifestations both in form and colour as the movement reached its peak around 1900. Competing foundries in Germany were bringing out similar designs: ‘Regina’; ‘Boccaccio’; ‘Herkules’; ‘Excentric’; and ‘Hansa’; etc. And these in turn were exported and renamed for the British printer. The wood type manufacturers weren’t slow to capitalise on this new, short-lived, fashion phenomena. They cut ‘Regina’; ‘Victoria’; and in this case ‘Carola’ (from the Berthold version).

INCLUDED: 52 individual high-resolution JPG images, featuring two distinct variations of each letter of the alphabet. The first presents a fuller, densely inked print, while the second features a lighter press with uneven pressure, creating a more distressed and characterful appearance. Find out more
