PROVENANCE: A greater proportion of designed letterforms from the mid-to-late nineteenth century were Latin-Runic based. Triangulated serifs – the basic feature of the Latin – can be found on many ornamented types from this period.‘Eastlake’, (named after Charles L Eastlake), was an original American metal design from MacKellar, Smiths & Jordan, cut by William W Jackson and patented 3 June 1879. This wood version was cut by T J Lawrence of Wine Office Court, Fleet Street, London, between 1882 and 1884.
INCLUDED: 52 individual high-resolution JPG images, featuring two distinct variations of each letter of the alphabet. The first presents a fuller, densely inked print, while the second features a lighter press with uneven pressure, creating a more distressed and characterful appearance. Find out more
