Medea Jugendstijl
£60.00
UPPERCASE: A to Z
PROVENANCE: By 1900 and within the following decade, the Jugendstijl (Art Nouveau) had permeated most of the industrial and decorative arts across continental Europe. Unnamed, but numbered ‘Serie’ filled the specimen books from: Roman Scherer of Lucerne; Ch Bonnet of Geneva; and A Martin of Ardon (Switzerland) among others. Although these forms aren’t named they are clearly of their time [1900-09] a period when typefoundries were introducing similar designs in ‘Othello’ (Schelter & Giesecke 1903); ‘Herold’ (Berthold 1904); ‘Marschall’ (Woellmer) and in the case of the font ‘Medea’ (Flinsch 1900).
