PROVENANCE: The Grotesque and Sans Serif forms are, probably, the largest and most extensive group within the classification of wood type. They can become condensed or elongated. Variation in design is evident across most of the manufacturers, this solid form, introduced in 1892, is ‘Sans Condensed (Series 268)’ by Robert DeLittle of York, England and was paired for two-colour working with ‘Sans Condensed (Series 46)’ to form the Chromatic two part font creating three printing possibilities.
