PROVENANCE: Occasionally, but confusingly, misnamed ‘Condensed’, Runic Grotesque Elongated is an original English model in wood and was produced by most manufacturers in one form or another. It could be said that American foundries prepared the ground with their earlier metal designs – ‘Teniers’; ‘Duerer’; and ‘Facade’, and in wood – ‘Gothic Condensed Ornamented’ of around 1880.
